RAD 16 is an aqueous solution of potassium methylsiliconate, used in diluted form for impregnating mineral building materials and giving them water repellent properties.
RAD 16 acquires water-repellent properties as a result of reaction with atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2).
The active substance formed from this silicone hydrophobizer of mineral bases is polymethylsilicic acid. Nevertheless, like virtually all silicones, RAD 16 can cause the appearance of a white coating on the surface of painted structural materials, especially when not used in full compliance with the instructions for use.
Application It imparts water-repellent properties: - products of low firing clay immediately after they were made: roofing tiles, facing bricks, floor tiles, flower pots, etc. - foam concrete - gypsum and gypsum-fiber boards - light fillers, such as perlite, vermiculite and granulated foam concrete - insulating materials Application Diluted with water RAD 16 is used to impregnate the surface of mineral materials, a suitable means of applying a fairly uniform coating is, for example, immersion.
The application of a double layer is not recommended. This product is not recommended for the treatment of exterior walls of buildings because uneven application can lead to the appearance of white spots.
Dilution of RAD 16 is supplied in concentrated form and diluted with water before use. For dilution, simple tap water can be used. It is best to add 16RAD to water with vigorous stirring. The most appropriate degree of dilution should be determined empirically.
Storage RAD 16 must be stored in tightly closed original containers. The shelf life of each lot is indicated on the product label. Storage longer than the date indicated on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer suitable.
However, in this case, it is necessary to check the properties required for the intended use targets. RAD 16 is best stored in drums made of stainless steel, plastic or glass containers. Tin, aluminum, galvanized or lacquered containers are not suitable. Storage at a low temperature can cause the appearance of crystals that can be re-dissolved by heating the solution. After this, the product must be carefully discontinued.
Safety Information Detailed instructions are contained in each material safety certificate that can be obtained from our sales offices.
